About Us
d's Handmade Rustic Soap Company is the product of Henderson County, Texas tradition and African American cultural practices. Our handmade natural soap is based on the historical household staple "lye soap" made by our ancestors.
The process of making lye soap was an ever present activity in rural East Texas decades ago. Despite lye soap being used on the skin in other parts of the country, in our area it was used primarily as a common cleansing agent for laundry items. d’s is proud to carry on the handmade soap creation process with a focus on its benefits for the skin using improved ingredients and techniques.
We make our soap bars using various oils, botanicals, natural colorants, essential oils, fragrances and other quality ingredients to develop the best possible product.
d’s is a small batch soaper that focuses less on soap bar aesthetics and more on superior components resulting in a beautiful rustic cleansing agent with moisturizing and other skin-enriching properties.

Mrs. Littie Mae "Aunt Lit" Davis Anderson
Our Inspiration
Mrs. Little Mae (Davis) Anderson better known as “Aunt Lit” was born in the Pleasant Ridge area of Henderson County, Texas in 1907. Her mother died at a young age leaving a young Littie Mae to assist with the daily care of the family. Later in life, Aunt Lit was the community babysitter and helped to positively shape the lives of many young people. She was known for being meticulous with everything she did: cooking, housekeeping, quilting, and soaping.
Aunt Lit created delicious recipes that included squirrel dumplings, tea cakes, fried grinnel, heavenly pudding, and “dog bread” for her canine companions, just to name a few. She is also remembered for being an avid soaper who created beautiful lye soap bars using the basic ingredients of the time.
Our aunt was a authentic representation of homemaking values and traditions of East Texas country living that remain fondly remembered and embraced. She was the epitome of class and the inspiration for d’s Handmade Rustic Soap Co. We can only hope to make her proud.
